Change of Seasons

It seems with the completion of the roof summer changed to fall. It was such an enormous job that both Chris and I seemed to have screeched to a halt and came down with cold viruses. Typical.
At the same time 4-H ramped up as the kids spent the better part of the week preceeding Labour Day mucking out barns, trimming hooves, and cleaning and trimming lambs. This often pulls in both Chris and me as we help fabricate makeshift trimming stands, sharpen tools and re-route garden hoses.
I have been busy with approximately 4 bookkeeping clients and this week two of them suffered deaths in their families. The work I do for them has been set aside for now, until they take the necessary time to grieve and put their lives back in some semblance of order. Now that summer is over, I will be continuing to look for several more steady bookkeeping/writing clients over the coming year. I have been enjoying exercising parts of my brain that simply do not get a work out while shoveling dirt into tires. 
We’ve had initial contact with the kids’ new teacher! Sometime this week Mandy will call us and we will discuss with her, as a family, what the kids will be doing for the next year while they learn at home. We are quite looking forward to this new adventure and we are all prepared for some ups and downs. We have registered the kids with SelfDesign, a B.C. Ministry of Education approved program, so a certified teacher keeps track of our kids’ progress and ensures they are meeting the ministry’s Learning Outcomes (the goals that public school teachers also ensure). Our greatest challenge will be continuing to be part of our community while the kids learn at home, and while I work and Chris keeps the house on track to move in this winter (hopefully at Christmas!) We have juggled greater time commitments before and I am hoping that with patience and a willingness to adjust, we will find a way to balance all the things that are important to us. Another adventure begins!

Thank you for your kind comments Jakub, both here and on our Facebook Page. I think there is some discussion of earthships in the Czech Republic, but I have not been following the discussions. I know Earthship Biotecture is steadily expanding demonstartions throughout the world so it will be interesting which countries they will go to next.
