Environmental hair care

Environmental hair care

Several weeks ago Helen convinced Katie to put curlers in her hair.  Here’s what she looked like.

Here’s the end result.

This ringlet technique is old.  I seem to recall that Nellie from Little House on the Prairie used to have her hair curled this way!  Katie’s friend Jillian arrived at school one day with ringlets and it was soon “Stephanie’s Ponytail” through her grade 6/7 class (anyone with kids will have heard/read this Robert Munsch story).  Katie tried it at the time, but her hair is so thick that every curl was straight by the time she got on the bus.  Helen’s lasted just a little longer before the curls fell out.  I obviously did not pass on the curly hair gene to my girls!!!

Fabric was ends from quilting projects.  Add some sisterly quality time, lots of giggling and some patience and an overnight (comfortable) set of the curls and voila:  ringlets!  I challenge you to try this next time you curl hair, rather than reaching for an electric appliance!  Fun!

Welcome to our homesteading adventure in south central BC, Canada! In 2009 we started building an earthship in Darfield. We moved in three and a half years later. Now that the biggest jobs are finished we are having fun homesteading in a modern world. Join us for discussions about finishing the earthship, food preservation, beekeeping, livestock, permaculture and how we interact with technology. It's all about simple living and stewardship of the land without deprivation. Together with our three teenagers we're learning as we go.
